Equity RedstarConviction FAQs
- Why should I use The Policy Shop if I have convictions?
Because of our links with Insurance companies we are able to refer individual circumstances to Insurers, who will then consider all the factors and offer a preferential rate. Price comparison sites and major Insurers cannot apply this level of technical expertise. - When should I disclose my convictions to an insurer?
You should inform your insurer of any change in circumstance, so contact them if you receive a conviction at any point. At inception and renewal you will be asked about your convictions in any case, and should make sure the details your insurer holds are correct. - What are Penalty Points?
Penalty Points are allocated to specific types of offences. Typically a minor offence, such as a Speeding offence would carry 3 penalty points. - What is meant by totting up?
This is the term used for an accumulation of points from more than 1 driving conviction. - What happens if I reach 12 points?
If you build up 12 or more penalty points within a period of three years, you’ll be liable to be disqualified under the ‘totting-up’ system.
Generally, you can be disqualified from driving for:- Six months if you get 12 penalty points or more within three years
- 12 months if you get a second disqualification within three years
- Two years if you get a third disqualification
- What is an offence code?
This is the code DVLA apply to identify types of convictions. Using a mobile phone whilst driving for example, is a CU80. - What is a fixed penalty?
This is the term for a standard fine for minor convictions. £60 is the current norm. - I have more than one serious conviction, can you help?
Yes! Specialising in convicted drivers means we are expecting to hear from you! We can accommodate all types of convictions! - When you ask for a copy of my driving licence, do you need both parts?
Yes please, we need to see the paper counterpart which holds your conviction details as well as the photo card. - Will you cover me if I have been disqualified?
As long as your licence has been reinstated we are able to offer a quotation.
