Speeding Offences

The Offences

Speeding offences fall into 5 general categories

  1. Offences committed on roads restricted to speeds of 20, 30, 40, and 50 mph
  2. Temporary speed limits placed on roads with limits of 50-70 mph
  3. Exceeding the limit on motorways
  4. Exceeding the speed limit applicable for the class of vehicle driven
  5. Failing to attain a minimum speed limit set for a specific class of road

Normally there must be two independent pieces of evidence to prove the allegation, one of which may be a speed-measuring device. Use of speed measuring devices are covered by various rules, breach of which may cause the prosecution to fail. The most commonly used devices are:

  1. Gatso
  2. Truevelo
  3. LTI 2020
  4. Vascar / Police Pilot
  5. Calibrated Speedometer

Potential Penalties

Fine up to £1,000 (£2,500 on motorways), 3-6 points, and discretionary disqualification for up to 6 months. In extreme cases prison or an unlimited disqualification apply, although these are usually prosecuted as either Careless or Dangerous Driving.

If you have driving convictions, points on your license and/or previous accidents and claims, you will need a specialist insurance provider.

Here at The Policy Shop we can help whether you have SP30 (speeding), CD10 (careless driving), IN10 (driving without insurance) or DR10 (drink driving) motoring convictions.

As long as you are aged 19 and over with a Full UK driving license, convicted driver car insurance has never been so easy.

Because of the specialist consideration that we give to your individual circumstances, the price quoted on the website may not be our best, so one of our team will call you back to confirm the details.
